Bronze sculpture stamped Airaindor A.E. Numbered 67/350 IVF with "Salvador Dalì" signature on the edge of the base. Certificate of Cosarte Kunst BV. This bronze was cast in the Ateliers Airaindor Valsuani in France. Bibliography: Catalog Raisonné des sculptures originales de Dali "Le Dur et le Mou" by R. Descharnes, pages 68 & 69.

The work is part of a series of sculptures that reproduce, in the third dimension, both the style and the most salient themes of the master of Surrealism Salvador Dalì. In fact, the exaltation of the plastic values of the subject and the inflated volumetric rendering correspond to the exaggerated hyper-realistic plasticism of the paintings, with a perfect rendering of every single detail. The composition is based on a strong quotationist component which, combined with the mechanical writing process, gives life to a completely surreal entity, coming from an unconscious and dreamlike dimension. In the case of this work, Dali's quotation is expressed in two directions. On the one hand, the myth of the Minotaur, locked in the labyrinth, is a topical figure of Surrealist aesthetics, as an image of the meanderings of the unconscious. Furthermore, on a formal level, the composition of the statue recalls the affected and elegant pose of Donatello's David. Also in this case the figure is dotted with openings that investigate its most recondite nature.
