Mario Schifano
The work depicts a minimalist, symbolic landscape dominated by two large white palm trees standing out at the center of the composition. In the background stretches a deep blue sky dotted with numerous white stars, while a yellow band at the bottom evokes sandy or desert terrain. The inscription appears on the palm fronds. "Oasi con due palme", which identifies the subject while simultaneously becoming an integral part of the image. Through simplified forms, vibrant colors, and bold chromatic contrasts, Schifano transforms the landscape into an evocative, imaginary image. Nature is not depicted realistically but reinterpreted through an essential, poetic language in which writing merges with painting. The work conveys a suspended, dreamlike atmosphere—characteristic of Schifano’s artistic practice—that blends elements of reality with a personal, symbolic vision.
