Dal fruttivendolo
Alessandro Tofanelli
In this artwork, Alessandro Tofanelli constructs a suspended, almost unreal scene, where the everyday simplicity of a small shop overlooking the water is transformed into a poetic and mental image. The house, positioned at the center of the composition like a silent island, seems to emerge from a slowed-down time, sheltered by the dense green mass of the trees and immersed in an absolute, luminous, crystal-clear blue. The landscape is not depicted in a naturalistic sense, but rather transfigured through a sharp and visionary gaze. The sky and the water, dominated by an intense blue tone, create an almost metaphysical space in which domestic architecture acquires symbolic meaning: a place of memory, waiting, and simple, secluded life. The small shop, with its awnings, green door, colorful crates, and reflections on the water, introduces a delicate narrative dimension, made of barely suggested presences and an evoked everydayness. Here, Alessandro Tofanelli once again confirms his ability to merge pictorial precision with poetic imagination. Every element is recognizable, yet at the same time removed from contingent reality: the house, the lake, the trees, and the distant line of hills become fragments of an inner landscape. The work exists in this balance between reality and dream, between memory and invention, between the silence of nature and the human trace of an inhabited place. At the Greengrocer’s is a painting of remarkable visual strength and, at the same time, profound stillness. Its central composition, limpid color, and suspended light convey what is distinctive in Tofanelli’s painting: a world apparently simple, yet permeated by wonder, nostalgia, and enchantment.
